Lash Lift on Mature Eyes: Results, Expectations and Adaptations

A complete guide to lash lifts from the age of 45-50: what results to expect, how the technique is adapted for mature skin and what specific aftercare you need.
Why a lash lift works differently from 45 onwards
Lash structure changes with age. From around 45-50, the follicle produces finer lashes with lower density, and natural curl is progressively lost. The eyelid skin also changes: it loses firmness and tends to droop.
None of this means a lash lift is not suitable. It means the technique must be adapted. For the general procedure, see our complete lash lift guide.
Changes in lashes and eyelids with age
Lashes from 45-50
- Lower density: from 90-120 down to 60-80 lashes per eyelid
- Reduced thickness
- Loss of pigment (they lighten)
- Slower growth cycle (6-8 weeks versus 4-6)
Eyelid skin
- Thinner and more sensitive (barely 0.5 mm)
- Loss of elasticity (mild dermatochalasis)
- Lower oil production
Realistic results on mature eyes
What it does achieve
- Visible opening of the eye area
- A more refreshed, well-rested look
- Less need for mascara
- A natural result
What it cannot do
- It does not add lashes — for that, see individual lash extensions
- It does not lengthen the lashes
- It does not eliminate eyelid drooping
Technical adaptations
Medium-to-large shield size
Produces a soft, open curl. Small shields create excessive curl on fine lashes.
Reduced processing times
5-8 minutes per step (versus 8-12 for younger lashes). Exceeding the time weakens the lash.
Extra eyelid protection
Barrier cream on contact zones. If you have a history of reactions, see our guide on red eyes after a lash lift.
Tint: practically essential
Depigmented lashes do not show the curl well. A tint in dark brown or soft black completes the effect.
Who is it ideal for?
- Lashes at least 5-6 mm long
- Moderate to good density
- No active dermatitis or blepharitis on the eyelid
- Seeking a natural, low-maintenance result
How often to repeat
Every 6-10 weeks (versus 4-6 for younger clients). Do not overlap treatments. Four to five lifts a year is sustainable with proper aftercare.
Specific aftercare
First 24-48 hours
- Do not wet lashes for 24 hours
- No eye make-up for 24 hours
- Do not rub your eyes
- Sleep on your back the first night
Maintenance (weeks 1-8)
- Brush every morning with a clean spoolie
- Nourishing serum 2-3 times a week (biotin, panthenol)
- Avoid mechanical curlers
- Gentle make-up remover without mineral oils

Frequently asked questions
Does it damage lashes if done continuously?
No, provided the intervals are respected (minimum 6 weeks) and quality products are used.
Can I have a lash lift if I use glaucoma eye drops?
Yes, but always let your therapist know. Some drops containing prostaglandins alter lash growth.
Is it worth it from the age of 60?
It depends on the condition of your lashes, not your age. A five-minute consultation beforehand determines whether the result will be satisfactory.
What if I do not like the result?
It cannot be reversed chemically. The curl will gradually fade over 6-10 weeks. The feedback is valuable for adjusting the next session.
