Arm waxing in Gandia and Ontinyent: the complete guide

An arm wax removes hair from the root and leaves your skin smooth for weeks. Here’s everything you need to know before your appointment in Gandia or Ontinyent: preparation, aftercare, frequency and FAQs.

An arm wax removes hair from the root and leaves your skin smooth for weeks. It's one of our most requested treatments in the run-up to summer, at both Adrian Beauty Studio in Gandia and Adrian Beauty Studio in Ontinyent. In this guide you'll find everything you need to know before your appointment: what to expect, how to prepare, aftercare and the questions we're asked most often.

Why wax your arms? Benefits and confidence

Waxing your arms isn't only about looks: many clients describe that smooth feeling afterwards as a real change in their day-to-day comfort, especially in summer when they're wearing sleeveless tops. Skin looks more even, self-tan goes on better and sweating feels less bothersome.

Beyond appearance, the thing clients mention most in the treatment room is confidence. Going to the beach or sitting on a terrace without thinking about the hair on your arms makes a real difference to how you feel. Hair also grows back finer over time with regular waxing, so later appointments are more comfortable and results last longer.

There's no rule about whether or not to wax your arms: it's entirely personal. But if you're thinking about it, professional waxing is currently the most accessible and effective option for instant results.

Arm waxing: the professional technique

In a specialist salon, arms are usually waxed with warm strip wax or stripless hot wax, depending on the type of hair and how sensitive the skin is. The wax is applied in thin layers in the direction of hair growth and removed against it, pulling the hair out from the follicle.

The result is completely smooth skin that normally stays regrowth-free for three to four weeks. Unlike a razor, there's no risk of nicks or irritation from daily friction, and the hair grows back with its natural tapered tip (not a blunt cut end), so it looks finer.

Does arm waxing hurt?

It's the question we hear most, and the honest answer is: it depends. Arm hair is usually finer than in other areas, which generally makes waxing less painful than, for example, the bikini line or underarms.

At the first appointment you may feel a bit of a pull, especially on the inner forearm, where the skin is thinner. From the second or third appointment, with the follicle weaker, the discomfort drops noticeably. Keeping your skin moisturised between appointments also makes things more comfortable.

How long does an arm wax take?

A full arm wax (from shoulder to wrist, both arms) is an appointment of about 15 minutes (about 20 for men). It costs €13 (men, €22). The time can vary slightly depending on how dense the hair is or whether you combine it with other areas. It's a quick treatment that fits easily into a lunch break.

Before your arm wax

For the wax to grip well and give the best result, hair should be at least about 0.5 cm long (around 10-15 days of growth since you last shaved). If it's too short, the wax can't grip properly; if it's very long, it may snap instead of coming out at the root.

On the day:

  • Don't apply creams or oils to your arms: they stop the wax from sticking.
  • Exfoliate gently 24-48 hours before to free any ingrown hairs.
  • If you've had a lot of sun that day, it's better to postpone: slightly sunburnt skin reacts worse to wax.

If you use topical retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene) on your arms, check with your dermatologist before waxing, as these actives make skin more sensitive.

Tips for sensitive skin

Arm waxing on sensitive skin is perfectly possible with the right precautions. In the treatment room we usually use waxes for sensitive skin (with less resin, more neutral) and apply a soothing post-wax oil before any other product.

If your skin reddens easily:

  • Avoid direct sun for the 24 hours before.
  • Don't do intense exercise on the day of your appointment (heat opens the follicles).
  • Tell the therapist: she'll adjust the wax temperature and the pace.
  • Apply a soothing cream with aloe vera or panthenol as soon as you get home.

The most common reaction on sensitive skin is mild redness that fades in 1-2 hours. If it lasts more than 24 hours or you get hives, see a healthcare professional.

Aftercare after an arm wax

The first few hours after waxing are the most important for avoiding irritation and making the results last longer.

Moisturising and post-wax irritation

Apply an unscented soothing lotion (with ingredients such as calendula, bisabolol or panthenol) as soon as you get home. Moisturise your arms every day for the following days: well-hydrated skin helps hair grow outwards and lowers the risk of ingrown hairs.

Avoid products with alcohol, perfume or exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) for at least 48 hours after waxing: pores are open and these ingredients can sting or irritate.

From the third or fourth day, add gentle exfoliation once or twice a week. This prevents ingrown hairs, the most common problem for people with curly or very fine hair.

Sun protection and what to avoid

For the first 24-48 hours, the skin on your arms is more sensitive. Apply SPF 50 if you'll be in the sun: freshly waxed skin can pigment more easily, especially on medium to dark skin tones.

Avoid on the day of your wax:

  • Saunas, steam rooms or very hot baths.
  • Intense exercise with heavy sweating.
  • Chlorinated pools or the sea (they can irritate open follicles).
  • Very tight clothing that keeps rubbing the area.

From the second day, you can get back to your usual routine without restrictions.

How often should you wax your arms?

The usual routine for keeping your arms hair-free with wax is every 3-4 weeks, although it depends on how fast your hair grows. In summer, some clients leave a little longer between appointments because the sun lightens the hair and makes it less visible.

Booking your first appointment 4-6 weeks before summer is the most practical approach: you reach beach season with the hair already weakened by at least one previous wax, so the appointment is more comfortable and the results last longer.

Over the months, if you keep up regular waxing, it's common for hair to grow back finer and sparser, and for you to need appointments less often.

Arm waxing vs laser: which should you choose?

Both have real advantages, and the choice depends on your long-term goal and your type of hair.

Waxing is the best option if you want flexibility and instant results and aren't sure you want permanent reduction. Laser makes more sense if your hair is very dark and dense and you'd rather reduce it long term.

At Adrian Beauty Studio we offer arm waxing in Gandia and in Ontinyent. For personalised advice on which option suits your hair and skin, just ask us at your appointment.

FAQs about arm waxing

Is arm waxing permanent?

No, waxing isn't permanent. It removes hair from the root, which makes the results last several weeks, but the follicle stays active and the hair grows back. Over time and with regular appointments, hair tends to grow back finer and sparser, but it doesn't disappear for good. If you want permanent reduction, laser or electrolysis are the options to look at; for that, it's best to consult a specialist aesthetic medicine clinic.

Can I wax my arms at any time of year?

Yes, you can wax your arms in any month. The only relevant precaution in summer is to apply SPF 50 after your appointment and avoid direct sun for the first 24-48 hours. There's no time of year when waxing is unsuitable for arms, although many clients plan their first appointments in spring to reach summer with the hair already weaker.

What's the difference between a full and a partial arm wax?

A full arm wax goes from the shoulder to the wrist, covering both the forearm and the upper arm. Partial usually means just the forearm (the most visible part) or just the upper arm. If the hair is denser in one area than another, mention it at your appointment so we can focus on what you really need. On our professional arm wax service page you'll find the current price: €13 (men, €22).

How can I avoid irritation on sensitive skin after waxing?

There are three keys: soothe straight away, moisturise every day and protect from the sun. As soon as your appointment is over, apply a lotion with aloe vera or panthenol; avoid fragranced or alcohol-based products for 48 hours; and moisturise daily to keep the follicle healthy. If your skin is especially reactive, tell us before your appointment: we can adjust the wax and the aftercare to keep inflammation to a minimum.

Does arm waxing hurt?

The discomfort is generally mild, especially compared with areas such as the bikini line or underarms. Arm hair is usually finer, which makes it easier to remove. The first appointment may feel a little more sensitive; from the second, with the follicle weaker, most clients describe it as perfectly bearable. Keeping your skin moisturised between appointments helps the wax glide better and the hair come out more cleanly.

How long does an arm wax appointment take?

About 15 minutes for both full arms (about 20 for men). The exact time depends on how dense the hair is and whether you combine it with other areas in the same appointment. It's one of the quickest treatments on the menu, so it's very easy to fit into any schedule.

What's the best time of year to wax your arms?

Any time works, but if you have a specific goal – like reaching summer with perfectly smooth skin – the most practical approach is to start in March or April. That way you reach June with two or three appointments behind you, finer hair and skin that's used to waxing. Clients who wax all year round tend to see more even results and find each appointment more comfortable.
