Full-Body Wax for Women: A Step-by-Step Guide in Gandia and Ontinyent

A full-body wax is one of the most effective ways to remove hair from your whole body for weeks, all in one appointment.
A full-body wax is one of the most effective ways to remove hair from your whole body for weeks, all in one appointment. If you're thinking of having one for the first time, or just want to know what to expect before booking at Adrian Beauty Studio in Gandia or at our Ontinyent salon, this guide takes you through it from start to finish.
What Is a Full-Body Wax?
A full-body wax for women means waxing every area of the body in a single session: from the legs to the underarms, via the bikini line and any other areas of unwanted hair. The result is smooth, clean skin for weeks, with no need to shave or use hair removal cream at home.
Areas usually included
A full-body wax usually covers:
- Full legs (lower and upper legs)
- Underarms
- Bikini line (Brazilian or Hollywood, as you prefer)
- Arms
- Happy trail (stomach)
- Upper lip and chin
- Perianal area and buttocks (optional, depending on the client)
In the treatment room we adapt the areas to what you actually need: if there's an area you'd rather skip, just say so when you book or at the start of your appointment.
Waxing vs laser vs shaving
Waxing pulls the hair out from the root, which slows regrowth and, over time, can make it finer. Results last 3 to 5 weeks depending on your hair growth cycle.
Laser (which we don't offer at our salons) reduces hair gradually and for the long term, but needs several spaced-out sessions and doesn't suit every skin type or tanned skin. Shaving is painless but only removes hair at the surface: it's back in days and feels coarser.
If you want long-lasting results without committing to a long course of treatment, waxing is still the most practical option. You'll find a fuller comparison in our complete waxing guide.
Before Your Full-Body Wax
Good preparation is the difference between a comfortable session and one that's more irritating than it needs to be.
Exfoliating and cleansing
Gently exfoliate the areas to be waxed 24 to 48 hours before your appointment. This removes the dead skin that stops the wax gripping the hair properly and lowers the risk of ingrown hairs afterwards. Don't exfoliate on the day: your skin would be too sensitive.
Come to your appointment with clean skin and no body cream or oil. Oils create a barrier that stops the wax sticking and can make the session less effective.
Moisturising in the run-up
Moisturise well in the days before, but avoid moisturiser in the 12 hours before your appointment. Well-nourished skin lets the wax come away more cleanly and reduces the chance of irritation.
The minimum hair length for the wax to grip properly is about 3-4 mm (roughly two weeks of growth after your last shave).
Medication and sensitivity
Some medicines make skin more sensitive: topical retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene), photosensitising antibiotics or oral isotretinoin can make your skin react more strongly to wax. If you're on any of these, check with your doctor and let us know before your appointment.
The same applies if you have active dermatitis, a rosacea flare-up or any open wound on the areas to be waxed: in these cases, it's better to postpone.
Step by Step: How a Full-Body Wax Works
Initial check and chat
At the start of your appointment, the therapist checks your skin, asks about any allergies or ongoing treatments and confirms the areas to be waxed. It's the perfect moment to mention any particularly sensitive areas or if it's your first wax. Our waxing specialists are trained to adapt the technique to every skin type.
Applying the wax
We work area by area. Depending on how sensitive each area is, we use hot wax (more effective on large areas such as legs or back, because it opens the pores and grips fine hair better) or strip wax (quicker for touch-ups on areas with coarser hair). On delicate areas such as the bikini line or underarms, hot wax is usually the go-to because it grips better and pulls less on the skin.
The wax goes on in thin layers in the direction of hair growth and comes off against it, with a quick movement parallel to the skin. Good technique keeps pain to a minimum and reduces the chance of irritation.
Removal and after-wax care
Once the wax is off, an oil or soothing lotion is applied to remove any residue and calm the skin. On more reactive areas (bikini line, underarms), a gel with anti-inflammatory ingredients such as allantoin or aloe vera is usually applied. A full-body wax is booked as a 1 h 45 min appointment and costs €75.
Aftercare for a Full-Body Wax
First 24-48 hours: what to avoid
For the first day and a half after waxing, the follicles are open and your skin is more vulnerable. Avoid:
- Direct sun or sunbeds: heat and UV can cause dark marks or hyperpigmentation on waxed areas.
- Pools, the sea and hot tubs: chlorine and salt water irritate freshly waxed skin.
- Very tight clothing over waxed areas: rubbing can cause spots or folliculitis.
- Perfume and deodorants with alcohol on underarms or bikini line: for the first 24 hours, use only fragrance-free, alcohol-free products.
- Hard exercise: sweat on treated areas can irritate open follicles.
Moisturising and recommended products
From day two, moisturise daily with a fragrance-free lotion. Products with urea, aloe vera or panthenol are especially good for keeping skin soft and reducing ingrown hairs. Avoid occlusive oils for the first 48 hours.
What to avoid in the first week
From day three to day seven you can get back to normal, but wait at least a week before any intense scrub (exfoliating mitt, grainy scrub). Gentle exfoliation with a cotton mitt from day five helps prevent ingrown hairs without irritating the skin.
Results: How Long a Full-Body Wax Lasts
How long results last
Hair usually takes 3 to 5 weeks to come back, though it varies by area and your own growth cycle. Legs and arms usually last longest; underarms and bikini line grow back faster.
How often to wax
To stay hair-free all the time, most clients come back every 4 weeks in summer and every 5-6 weeks in winter. With time and regular waxing, hair tends to come back finer and sparser, so sessions get more and more comfortable.
How to make it last longer
- Exfoliate once a week (from day five after waxing)
- Moisturise daily: dry skin encourages ingrown hairs
- Don't shave between waxes: it breaks the cycle and the hair grows back coarser
- Stick to a regular schedule: skipping sessions leaves hair at different growth stages, which makes the next wax harder
Frequently Asked Questions about Full-Body Waxing
Does a full-body wax hurt?
It depends on the area and your own tolerance. The underarms, bikini line and upper lip are where you feel the pull most. Legs and arms are usually much easier. With professional hot wax and good technique, the discomfort is brief and only sharp at the moment of the pull. As you keep waxing regularly, most clients say it hurts less and less, because the hair grows back finer. Not shaving between appointments makes each session noticeably more comfortable than the last.
What's the difference between hot and strip wax?
Hot wax is applied directly to the skin at a controlled temperature and removed without a strip, so it follows the body's curves better and catches finer hair. It's the most common choice for the bikini line, underarms and face. Strip wax, with ready-made strips, is quick and practical for large areas with coarser hair, such as the legs. In a professional salon, which one is used depends on the therapist's judgement for each area and hair type; it's not one or the other for the whole treatment.
Can I wax if I'm tanned?
Waxing very tanned skin or skin that's recently been sunburnt isn't a good idea: hot wax on skin already irritated by the sun can cause strong redness, blisters or hyperpigmentation. If you have a strong recent tan, wait a few days until your skin has fully calmed down. In winter, or with a moderate, even tan and no irritation, it's fine. If you're unsure, ask the therapist when you book.
What if I have sensitive or reactive skin?
Sensitive skin can be waxed perfectly well, with a few precautions. Always tell us before your appointment so the therapist can use waxes made for delicate skin, with fewer resins and better tolerance. Don't apply topical retinoids for three days before, and bring loose cotton clothes for afterwards. If you're prone to dark marks or visible thread veins, mention that too: some areas need extra care. If in doubt, ask your dermatologist before your first session.
How often should I repeat it?
Most clients come every 4 weeks to stay hair-free all the time. On slower-growing areas (legs, arms), you can stretch it to 5-6 weeks without a problem. What matters is not leaving it too long: if the hair grows too much, the pull is stronger and the session more uncomfortable. If it's your first time, ask in the treatment room which interval suits your hair best.
What are the benefits of waxing over other methods?
Wax removes hair from the root, so it takes 3 to 5 weeks to come back, compared with 1-3 days after shaving. Over time, hair grows back finer and sparser. Unlike laser, there's no upfront investment in a course of sessions and no skin-type limits. And unlike hair removal creams, there's no thioglycolate or other ingredients that can irritate reactive skin with frequent use. The instant result (completely smooth skin) is hard to match with any at-home method.
