Eyebrow Waxing: What Happens at Your Appointment, How Long It Lasts and Aftercare

Eyebrow waxing is one of the most requested treatments in the salon, and for good reason: it gives a clean, defined, long-lasting result in just a few minutes.

Waxing your eyebrows is one of the most requested treatments in the salon, and for good reason: it gives a clean, defined, long-lasting result in just a few minutes. If you're thinking of having it done for the first time — or want to know exactly what happens during the appointment and how to look after the area afterwards — here's all the practical information you need.

What Is Eyebrow Waxing?

Eyebrow waxing means removing the excess hair around the natural arch to get a defined shape that suits your features. Unlike a quick tidy-up with tweezers, wax lifts several hairs at once, which speeds things up and gives a more even finish.

It's one of the most popular services at both our Gandia and Ontinyent salons, and it's often the first step for anyone who wants to start looking after their face professionally.

Waxing vs Other Methods

There are several ways to shape your brows: tweezers, threading, razor and wax. Wax is still the most widely used in salons, for several reasons:

  • Speed: it works on whole areas, not hair by hair.
  • Precision: warm wax grips fine hair too, including the almost invisible fuzz that tweezers can't catch.
  • Longer-lasting results: because the hair comes out from the root, regrowth takes longer to appear than with a razor.
  • Gentle exfoliation: wax lifts dead skin cells from the surface, leaving the skin smoother.

If you'd like to compare hair removal methods in the long term, we have a full comparison of waxing vs laser. And if you're after something that also adds volume and direction to the hairs, brow lamination is a complementary treatment that more and more clients are asking for.

How Eyebrow Waxing Is Done: Step by Step

Knowing what's going to happen takes the nerves away, especially the first time. This is the usual process in a professional salon.

Technique and Method: Waxing

  1. Cleansing the area: any make-up or cream is removed with a gentle cleanser. The skin needs to be dry and grease-free so the wax grips properly.

  2. Assessing the shape: the therapist looks at your bone structure, the distance between your brows and your natural arch. If you'd like a particular shape, now's the time to say so.

  3. Applying the warm wax: a thin layer of wax — usually a low-temperature wax, which is kinder to sensitive skin — is spread over the area in the direction of hair growth.

  4. Controlled removal: with a quick, firm movement, the wax is pulled off against the direction of growth. The discomfort lasts less than a second per area.

  5. Finishing with tweezers: fine-tipped tweezers are used for stray hairs the wax missed or to refine very precise lines.

  6. Soothing and hydrating: aloe vera gel or an after-wax lotion is applied to reduce redness and calm the skin straight away.

How Long the Appointment Takes

The whole process usually takes around 10 minutes. If you also need the area between the brows waxed, add a few extra minutes. It's a quick service that many clients combine with other facial treatments in the same visit.

How Long Does Eyebrow Waxing Last?

Instant Results

As soon as we finish, your brows look defined and clean. It's normal for the area to be slightly red; this usually fades within 30–60 minutes. The result — shaped brows, smooth skin, a clear arch — is visible straight away.

How Long Results Last and When to Come Back

Hair usually starts to grow back between the second and fourth week, depending on your hair growth cycle. Most people book a tidy-up every 3–4 weeks to keep the shape.

Over time, regular waxing can make the hair grow back finer and sparser, stretching out the gaps between appointments. A practical tip: avoid plucking stray hairs with tweezers between sessions. Letting the hair grow evenly makes the next appointment easier and avoids asymmetry.

Eyebrow Aftercare

Aftercare makes the difference between a flawless result and unnecessary irritation. The brow area is particularly sensitive because the skin is thin and constantly exposed to sun and friction.

The First 24 Hours

  1. Don't apply make-up to the area for at least 4–6 hours. Open pores can absorb pigments and cause small spots.
  2. Avoid direct heat: no saunas, very hot showers or hairdryer aimed at your forehead.
  3. Don't touch the area with your hands. It's tempting, but touching introduces bacteria.
  4. Avoid direct sun. If you're going out, wear sunglasses or a facial SPF 30+.
  5. No exfoliants or retinol on the treated area for 24–48 hours.

Longer-Term Care

  • Moisturise daily: a light face cream or castor oil applied at night helps keep the hairs healthy and the skin supple.
  • Sun protection: freshly waxed skin is more prone to hyperpigmentation, especially in the summer months in La Safor or the Vall d'Albaida.
  • Plan your tidy-ups: keeping a regular rhythm (every 3–4 weeks) stops the hair getting out of control and makes each session easier.

If you'd like a complementary treatment that adds colour and definition without daily make-up, brow tinting can be done in the same appointment and lasts several weeks.

Eyebrow Waxing FAQs

Does eyebrow waxing hurt?

The discomfort is real but brief: a quick pull that lasts less than a second per area. The first session is usually the most intense because the hair is at its thickest. From the second or third appointment, most people notice much less discomfort. Salons use low-temperature wax to minimise irritation, and a soothing gel is applied straight afterwards. If your skin is particularly reactive, let us know before your appointment so we can take extra care.

How should I look after my brows after waxing?

The most important things are not to touch the area, to avoid make-up for the first few hours and to protect the skin from sun and direct heat. A simple routine: cleanse with a gentle micellar water if you need to, apply aloe vera if there's redness and don't exfoliate for 48 hours. These small steps prevent spots and irritation that are sometimes blamed on the wax when they're really down to aftercare.

How often should I wax my eyebrows?

The most common interval is every 3–4 weeks, although it depends on how fast your hair grows. Ideally the hair should be at least 2–3 mm long so the wax can grip it properly. Waxing too often can irritate the skin for no reason, while leaving it too long makes it harder to keep the shape you want.

Can I wax my eyebrows at home or is it better to go to a salon?

You can tidy up stray hairs with tweezers between appointments, but to define the whole shape with wax, a professional salon is the safest choice. The eye area is delicate and a mistake of a few millimetres really shows. In the salon, the therapist works with proper lighting, temperature-controlled wax and a symmetrical view of your whole face. If you've never had your brows waxed, it's especially worth starting with a professional session to set the base shape.

How long does an eyebrow wax last?

Generally between 3 and 4 weeks, depending on your genetics and growth cycle. The first regrowth usually appears as fine, scattered hairs around the second week. As you keep up regular waxing, many people find the hair takes longer to grow back and comes through finer, which makes each result last longer.

What should I avoid after waxing?

For the first 24 hours: direct heat, make-up on the area, exfoliants, retinol, strong sun and chlorinated pools. The aim is to let the pores close and the skin recover without anything blocking or irritating it. If redness lasts more than a few hours or you get persistent spots, see a professional to rule out an allergic reaction to the type of wax used.
